It was never doubted that, Marathi cinema was rich in content and performances. There was a never dull period in the industry when its films were not getting critical appreciation and awards. Despite of being simple on budget, there was always an endearing quality about this regional film that has held the industry in high esteem. Recently Marathi films have got a new boost. Thanks to emerging multiplexes and new mediums of promotion, these films have started getting good monetary returns. Let’s take for example the Ritheish Deshmukh produced film Lai Bhari. The film was no less than a storm for the theaters for it recorded a very high viewership and gave a revival for Marathi films in terms of publicity. The masala packed mass entertainer continued its winning run in theaters for more than a month and raked in huge sum of money.
Early this year, Time Pass and Duniyadaari have also done very well as far as monetary gain is concerned. Porbazzar and Gurupournima have also received a good show at the theaters. Expectations are high with the upcoming films. Pyar Wali Love Story and Ishq Waala Love are set to release this month. Producers are now coming forward to invest more and more money seeing the heavy returns. Bollywood stars are also steeping in to produce and act in Marathi films.
