Atul Kulkarni is a noted actor in Hindi and Marathi films and has acted in about 6 different languages and over 70 regional and Bollywood films. The good looking actor who wears his heart on his sleeves impressed the audience as Laxman Pandey in Rang De Basanti. He received national award for best supporting actor for the critically acclaimed films Hey Ram and Chandani Bar.

Atul was yet to make a mark in films when he was offered a pivotal role in Kamal Hassan ‘s film Hey Ram in 2000. In the role of Shriram Abhayankar, an extremist, he left no stone unturned to bring to life the character. He won the best actor in supporting role in various awards that year.

Atul Kulkarni short fame with the young gen film Rang De Basanti in which he played a budding politician whose belief in the system of the country crumbles when he witnesses unjust practices in the government. He turns a rebel against the very system that he so ritually adhered to. He was an understated actor in the film but his simplicity was appreciated by on and one. Few years before Rang De Basanti happened in 2006, he played the role of a ruthless gangster in the national award winning Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Chandani Bar in 2001. The much critically acclaimed film gave him a chance to portray a potential role in which he excelled along with the veteran actress Tabu. He went on win the national award for best actor in supporting role in 2001.

Atul ‘s acting career began at an early age. He was quick to recognize his inclination towards stage and acting and joined National School of Drama in New Delhi. He was a director’s delight for he was spontaneous and natural and powerful on the stage. He rendered himself to the portrayal of characters of different colors. In the reputed Maharashtra state theater fest, he holds the record of winning best actor award most number of times.

Born in Bangalore where he got many opportunities to horn his acting skills , he also directed many plays for his amateur theater group. Be it acting or direction, the 48 year old actor has excelled in each of them.

Atul ‘s career in Bollywood includes noted films like 88 Antolpe hill, Dum, Khakhee, Page 3, Delhi 6, Allah Ke Bande, Bum Bum Bole.

Stepping into films in 1997, Atul has associated himself with quality films that raise voices for social causes and regional issues. He is also known for voicing his opinions against mal practices in education. He works for the organization Quest which endeavors to change the orthodox outlook about education in the backward regions.
