“It Didn’t Happen Overnight”: Chilling Teaser of Ek Hota Malin Recreates the 2014 Tragedy

A haunting piece of Maharashtra’s history is coming to the silver screen. The makers of Ek Hota Malin have officially dropped the film’s first teaser, offering a spine-chilling glimpse into the 2014 Malin landslide disaster.

The film, which chronicles the unimaginable horror of an entire village being swallowed by nature, is set for a statewide theatrical release across Maharashtra on July 24, 2026.

Based on a Heartbreaking True Story

Located in the Ambegaon taluka of Pune district, Malin was a peaceful village desperately praying for rain to end a dry spell. But on one fateful night, their prayers turned into a nightmare. As heavy torrential downpours battered the region, the hillside collapsed, burying the sleeping villagers and wiping the entire hamlet off the map in a matter of minutes.

To maintain absolute authenticity, director Raju Rane spent extensive time interviewing the surviving villagers of Malin, gathering first-hand accounts to ensure the narrative honors the victims and survivors.
