Nagraj Manjule and Amey Wagh’s Marathi Film – Frame All set to Stream on Zee5

Marathi Zee5 is set to premiere Frame, an intense social drama that delves into the delicate and often challenging balance between professional duty and human conscience. Written and directed by Vikram Patwardhan, the film features Nagraj Manjule, Amey Wagh, Mugdha Godse, and Akshaya Gurav in pivotal roles. Set within the bustling newsroom of a Pune-based newspaper, Frame explores the emotional and moral toll of documenting tragedy particularly through the eyes of photojournalists expected to capture devastation without intervening. The film will premiere on Marathi Zee5 on July 10, 2026.
Frame follows Chandu Pansare, a seasoned photojournalist who follows a strict “click first” philosophy, and Sidharth Deshmukh, an idealistic newcomer striving to balance ambition, professional responsibility, and compassion. Their conflicting worldviews collide when a devastating earthquake strikes, thrusting them into a chaotic landscape marked by grief, loss, and fragile survival. As they document lives amid the ruins, the line between observer and participant begins to blur. Each photo they choose to capture or withhold forces them to confront challenging questions: When does documentation become exploitation? When does duty overshadow empathy? What does it truly mean to witness human suffering through a camera lens?
Exploring the Ethics of Journalism and Photojournalism
Frame uses photography not just as a profession but as a potent storytelling tool. Through the contrasting perspectives of Chandu and Sidharth, the film examines themes of truth, responsibility, and media’s role during crises. While Chandu remains detached, focused on recording reality without interference, Sidharth wrestles with the emotional strain of remaining a bystander to pain. This ideological clash forms the emotional heart of the film, making Frame a compelling exploration of ambition, morality, survival, and the weight of bearing witness.Set against the backdrop of a natural disaster, the film goes beyond the newsroom to reveal the deeply human stories behind headlines, raising provocative questions about the cost of witnessing versus helping.
