Despite their modest production scales, Marathi films are winning over audiences with compelling content, stellar acting, and impressive presentation. While Hindi films once ruled the box office in Maharashtra during Diwali, Marathi films have now claimed that spotlight.
Marathi Films Making Waves
The film Premachi Goshta, released 12 years ago, still enjoys a massive fan following. This has created great anticipation for its VFX-driven love story sequel, Premachi Kahata 2.Mahesh Manjrekar’s upcoming film, Phir Shivajiraje Bhosale, will portray the lives of farmers in Maharashtra with depth and sensitivity. Additionally, emotional and family-centric films like Well Done Aai and Tu Majha Kinara are also set to captivate viewers.
Marathi Cinema This Year
Last month alone, three Marathi films—Dashavatar, Aarpaar, and Bin Lagnachi Goshta—hit theaters simultaneously. Throughout the year, movies such as Jaran, Gulkand, Aba Thakcha Nai, Fausklas Dabhade, Sangeet Manapaman, April May 99, Devmanus, Ashi Hi Jamwajmavi, Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Muktai, Mukkam Post Devacha Ghar, Jhapuk Jhupak, Sushila Sujit, Banjara, and Yere Yere Paisa 3 have entertained Marathi audiences extensively.Notably, Laxman Utekar, a Marathi director, gained acclaim in the Hindi film industry with the highest-grossing film Chhava, which chronicles the extraordinary bravery of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
