Mulshi Residents Oppose ‘Mulshi Pattern 2’ Title, Accuse Pravin Tarde of Defaming the Region

Actor-director Pravin Tarde’s upcoming sequel Mulshi Pattern 2 has sparked strong opposition from the residents of Mulshi taluka. Local citizens have formed the ‘Mulshi Bachao Samiti’ to demand an immediate change to the film’s title, alleging that the franchise damages the region’s reputation.

Key Concerns Raised by Mulshi Bachao Samiti

Negative Stereotyping: The committee claims the original 2018 film linked Mulshi’s identity exclusively to crime, violence, and gang culture nationwide.

Economic & Social Impact: Local representatives argue this violent image harms local businesses, deters industrial investment, and reduces job opportunities for youth. They further allege that the stigma affects marriage proposals for young men and women in the taluka.

Escalating Protests and Allegations

Addressing a press conference at the Press Bhavan in Pune, committee members clarified they do not oppose the movie itself, but strictly object to using ‘Mulshi’ in the title.

Protesters held their first meeting in Paud village and are visiting various locations across the taluka to pass official village resolutions banning the use of the name for the film.

The committee stated it will not go to meet Pravin Tarde, even though he hails from the region. Instead, members demanded that Tarde address the residents directly to change the name. Several members leveled sharp criticism against him, accusing the filmmaker of building his career and earning money by portraying his hometown in a negative light.
