Sonali Kulkarni is one among the most talented actresses in Marathi film industry who has an array of awards to boast of. Known for film like Deol , Gandha and Gabrichya Paus in Marathi, the actress has also played memorable characters in Hindi films like Mission Kashamir, Dil Chahta Hain and Taxi No 9211. The actress carries an image of being spontaneous with a natural charm and at the same time being bold and sultry. Her looks make her eligible for homely Indian characters but she has played a variety of roles that includes different shades of womanhood.

Sonali Kulkarni received an award for her acting quite early in her career. She had just stepped into acting profession when she received best actress award for her television serial “Kata Rute Kunala” in 1996. She was a fresh talent when she as cast in the film Cheluvi in the lead role by veteran dramatist Girish Karnad. The film served as a great launch for her and thereafter she began her career in Marathi films and television. Many opportunities from Tamil and Kannad films came her way but it was in her mother tongue Marathi that she made her mark as an actress. In the 2000 released Dr. Babasaheb Ambdedkar , which was a highly acclaimed film, she played the role of Ambedkar’s wife. In 1996, she was cast for a lead role in the film Daayra , directed by Amol Palekar . The film was based on gender issues and sexual atrocities on women.

With her talent and hard work she impressed critics and audiences and bagged international films also like Vrindavan film studios ( English ), Fuoco Di Su Me ( Italian ) and Bride nad Prejudice ( English ). Later she stepped into commercial Hindi cinema with Dil Chahta Hain in which she played Saif Ali khan’s love interest. This was followed by her role of young Hrithik Roshan’s mother and Sanjay Dutt’s wife in the terror action drama Mission Kashmir. Later she became apart of romantic comedies like Dil Vil Pyar Vyar before she essayed a serious role in the John Abraham and Nana Patekar starrer Taxi No. 9211.

In 2011, she played a small role in mass entertainer Singham. Later she turned to Gujrati film The Good Road which entered 86the Academy Awards in foreign language category but was not nominated. Her recent success in Marathi films is Deool which won the best film award at 59the national awards. In the film, she shared screen with veterans like Dilip Prabhavalkar and Nana Patekar .
