Marathi Fans to Enjoy a Feast of Entertainment This Diwali with Exciting Film Releases

Gone are the days when Diwali was dominated solely by big Bollywood banner releases. This Diwali season in 2025, Marathi cinema is shining brightly like the festival lamps, drawing audiences back to theaters with compelling stories and vibrant content. Marathi films continue to light up the silver screen, making this festive season no exception.
While Bollywood has struggled to make a major impact at the box office this year—with only a few exceptions like the recently released Kantara Chapter 1 (originally a Kannada film)—Marathi cinema has steadily gained momentum. Despite differences in production scale compared to Hindi films, Marathi movies have carved a special place in the hearts of viewers, backed by strong storytelling, performances, and impressive box office performance.
During this Diwali, Marathi films such as Satish Rajwade’s Premachi Kahata 2 and Mahesh Manjrekar’s Punar Shivajiraje Bhosale are among the most talked-about releases. Additionally, Thaa, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, is also generating buzz. A few years ago, Diwali celebrations were synonymous with Bollywood’s biggest stars, massive box office collections, and extensive media buzz.
However, times have changed. Marathi cinema is not only holding its ground during Diwali but is also surpassing Bollywood in many ways. Marathi films, though smaller in production budgets, are winning over audiences through rich content, compelling acting, and creative presentation. Where Hindi films once dominated Maharashtra’s box office during the festive season, Marathi films are now taking center stage.
The beloved film Premachi Goshta from 12 years ago has a loyal fan base eagerly awaiting the sequel Premachi Kahata 2, a visually rich love story enhanced with VFX. Mahesh Manjrekar’s Punar Shivajiraje Bhosale focuses on the poignant story of Maharashtra’s farmers, offering emotional depth and social insight.Other upcoming emotional and family-centric films like Well Done Aai and Tu Majha Kinara are also set to captivate audiences.Last month alone saw the simultaneous release of three Marathi films: DashavatarAarpaar, and Bin Lagnachi Goshta.
Throughout the year, films such as JaranGulkandAba Thakcha NaiFausklas DabhadeSangeet ManapamanApril May 99DevmanusAshi Hi JamwajmaviSant Dnyaneshwar’s MuktaiMukkam Post Devacha GharJhapuk JhupakSushila SujitBanjara, and Yere Yere Paisa 3 have entertained and won the hearts of Marathi audiences.
