Bizarre Superstition Triggers Sensation at Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal Counting Center

The highly anticipated elections for the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal, also known as the All India Marathi Film Corporation, have taken an unexpected and bizarre turn. Following Sunday’s polling, a major sensation was triggered on Monday morning when lemons, burning embers, and incense sticks were discovered placed on a chair directly in front of the Kolhapur counting center. This strange discovery has raised widespread allegations of superstitious rituals or black magic meant to influence the final election results.
Held after a gap of nearly a decade, the elections have been mired in heavy controversy, leading a substantial number of prominent actors, directors, and producers to boycott the voting process entirely. Consequently, the state recorded a modest total voter turnout of just under fifty percent. The election is being contested for 17 available seats in the Film Corporation. With three candidates already elected unopposed, a pool of 44 candidates is battling it out for the remaining 14 seats. The main competition is a three-way face-off between the Samarth Panel led by outgoing president Meghraj Raje Bhosale, the Chitrakarmi Panel led by Satish Randive, and a group of 16 independent candidates.
While voting took place across Mumbai, Pune, and Kolhapur, Kolhapur registered the highest regional participation with 517 out of 746 eligible voters casting their ballots. Pune followed closely with 460 out of 724 voters. The final counting and official result announcements are currently underway at the Ram Ganesh Gadkari Hall. Amidst the chaos, three prominent industry veterans managed to secure their positions on the board without facing any opposition. These include renowned actress Varsha Usgaonkar, film editor Vijay Khochikar, and celebrated music playback singer Anand Shinde.
The election has also drawn heavy criticism from within the fraternity due to alleged political meddling. Veteran actor Vijay Patkar openly accused political figures of sabotaging the process, claiming he was actively prevented from filing his nomination due to backroom politics. Patkar further lashed out at the presence of government officials in the election space, questioning why the Officer on Special Duty to a state minister had been camping in Kolhapur for four days to pressure voters.
