A Unique Celebration of Maharashtra’s Folk Tradition
What sets Gondhal apart is its deep-rooted story inspired by the traditional, religious, and artistic elements of Maharashtra’s folk culture called “Gondhal.” In honor of this tradition, a Gondhali congregation performed a special ritual abhishek outside the theater during the film’s opening, accompanied by traditional musical instruments and devotional chants, creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere.

The Gondhali group expressed their pride and happiness about being part of this cultural celebration. “Gondhal is a film that honors tradition and art, and we feel privileged to have performed the abhishek as our primary duty,” they said.

Director Santosh Davkhar aimed to elevate Maharashtra’s folk traditions to a global platform by presenting them with a contemporary touch. Speaking about the audience’s reaction, he shared, “The love and appreciation from viewers is beyond words. It’s a blessing that the Gondhali brothers performed the traditional abhishek to our film’s poster. We created Gondhal with devotion and passion, and receiving this warm response is our greatest joy. The biggest achievement is knowing the audience truly enjoys the film.”

Santosh Davkhar himself wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogues. The film is produced by Davkhar Films with co-production by Diksha Davkhar.The talented ensemble cast includes Kishore Kadam, Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Nishad Bhoir, Anuj Prabhu, Suresh Vishwakarma, Madhavi Juvekar, Aishwarya Shinde, Kailash Waghmare, Prabhakar Mathpati, Vitthal Kale, Pravin Dalimbkar, Sharad Jadhav, Poonam Patil, and Dhruv Thoke.
