Raja Shivaji Box Office Day 14: Riteish Deshmukh’s Epic Becomes 2nd Highest-Grossing Marathi Film, Surpasses Baipan Bhari Deva

Actor-director Riteish Deshmukh’s ambitious historical drama Raja Shivaji has completed a phenomenal two-week run at the box office since its release on May 1. The bilingual Marathi-Hindi project has officially crossed the ₹75 crore mark domestically, cementing its status as a major commercial success. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film minted ₹1.39 crore net on its second Thursday (Day 14), bringing its total domestic net collection to ₹76.44 crore.
With this milestone, Raja Shivaji has officially surpassed the lifetime earnings of the blockbuster Baipan Bhari Deva (₹76.28 crore) to become the second highest-grossing Marathi film of all time. It now stands second only to the romantic drama Sairat, which holds the ultimate record at ₹80.98 crore.
Two-Week Box Office Breakdown
Following a spectacular opening week that brought in ₹52.65 crore, the film experienced a routine weekday slowdown but maintained a steady grip through its second weekend.
- Second Weekend: Friday brought in ₹3.20 crore, followed by a significant jump on Saturday (₹5.60 crore) and Sunday (₹6.80 crore).
- Second Weekdays: The movie held steady over the weekdays, earning ₹2.40 crore on Monday, ₹2.50 crore on Tuesday, and ₹1.90 crore on Wednesday before wrapping up the week on Thursday.
As expected, the film’s Marathi version is heavily driving the box office numbers, outperforming the Hindi version by a wide margin across regional circuits.
Star-Studded Production and Creative Vision
The epic biographical drama is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios. Chronicling the legendary life of the Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the film boasts a high-profile ensemble cast. Alongside Riteish and Genelia, the movie features prominent appearances by Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte.
In a recent conversation with PTI, Riteish Deshmukh shared his deeply personal connection to the project. He described Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as his ultimate childhood superhero whose inspiring values and legacy have been passed down through generations in his own family. This respectful, grounded approach to the historical icon, combined with strong cultural resonance, continues to strike a powerful chord with audiences across Maharashtra.
