‘Gondhal’ Trailer Released: India’s Oscar Entry Set for Worldwide Seven-Language Release on November 13

The global trailer for Gondhal, directed by Santosh Davakhar, has been released ahead of its worldwide theatrical debut on November 13, 2026. Selected as India’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, the psychological thriller will release across seven languages: Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and English. The makers highlight this as the first Marathi film to achieve a simultaneous seven-language global rollout across India, North America, Europe, Australia, and the Middle East.

Set against the traditional cultural backdrop of Maharashtra, Gondhal follows newlyweds Suman and Anandrao as their lives unravel when personal desires, marital responsibilities, and ritualistic devotion intersect. The trailer previews the couple’s escalating personal tensions and a series of eerie events that anchor the narrative.

Reflecting on the film’s international launch, writer-director Santosh Davakhar emphasized presenting an authentic narrative to global audiences. “Global perceptions of Indian cinema are often shaped by narratives of poverty and caste conflict – important realities, but not the complete expression of India,” Davakhar said. “Gondhal is not just a film, but generations of culture and traditions coming together… I created this film to bring one such powerful tradition to the global screen through a culturally authentic and universal cinematic language.”

Davakhar previously won the Silver Peacock for Best Director at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), where the jury likened the film to a “Shakespearean fable set in a real world.” Visually ambitious, the film notably opens with an uninterrupted 25-minute single take captured by cinematographer Amalendu Chaudhary.

Gondhal stars Ishita Deshmukh, Kishor Kadam, Yogesh Sohani, and Nishad Bhoir. Produced by Santosh Davakhar and Diksha Davakhar under the Davakhar Films banner, the psychological thriller arrives in cinemas worldwide on November 13, 2026.
