Pravin Tarde Fires Back at Critics and Troll Culture: “My Accent Comes from My Roots, I Won’t Change Who I Am”

Outspoken filmmaker, actor, and director Pravin Tarde is well known for wearing his heart on his sleeve—a quality that frequently makes him a target for online trolling and criticism. Addressing these detractors in a recent candid conversation with Rajshri Marathi, Tarde broke down the reasoning behind his bold, unapologetic persona and tackled public misconceptions about his attitude.

Responding to allegations that he acts arrogant or overconfident, Tarde questioned the logic of his critics: “People say, ‘Look at his rhythm, look at his swagger…’ But what harm have I done to anyone? Did I steal your two rupees? Why call it arrogance? People comment on the way I speak but how else am I supposed to talk? I come from Mulshi Taluka.”

Tarde emphasized that a person’s speech pattern is deeply linked to their background, citing industry peers as examples. “Everyone has a distinct way of speaking whether it’s Subodh Bhave, Nagraj Manjule, or Sswapnil Joshi. It comes from their social and geographical roots. I come from a village where you naturally have to speak loudly just to get someone’s attention across a field. That’s how I grew up communicating.”

He further added that putting on a fake persona now would be dishonest: “Now that people are listening, if I suddenly change my dialect, I’ll get trolled even more. I’d rather stay true to who I am. Changing your behavior just for show makes a person look strange and fake.”

While clarifying that education and reading have enriched his perspective, Tarde maintained that learning calms a person down rather than altering their core identity. He also issued a stark warning to those who cross personal boundaries:

“My style comes from my soil. But let me be clear if someone talks disrespectfully about my parents or my family, nobody is more dangerous than me. If you insult our mothers, we will respond in the exact same coin. But if you greet us with respect as ‘Mauli,’ we will bow down to you as ‘Mauli.’ If anyone disrespects my faith or my God, I will be aggressive. I am not an artist who will quietly swallow insults and stay silent.”
