Marathi filmmaker Satish Kulkarni once invited him to the Jubilee celebration of Sachin Pilgaonkar’s Marathi film Ek Ek, produced by Tulsi Productions. Satish Kulkarni secured Amitabh’s consent through his then secretary Sheetal Jain. This event marked Amitabh’s first appearance at a Marathi cultural function. He arrived gracefully, draped in a shawl, adding prestige to the occasion.
Interestingly, the event coincided with the release day of Mukul Anand’s Hum, making it a grand celebration at a five-star hotel in Juhu. Sachin Pilgaonkar’s enthusiasm on stage was unforgettable.Amitabh Bachchan’s actual appearance in a Marathi film came in Akka (1994), produced by his make-up artist Deepak Sawant and directed by Shridhar Joshi. Both Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan featured in an Aarti song dedicated to Shri Ganapati titled “Tu Jagati Adhipati Naman Tu Pehle Shri Ganapati”.
The song was filmed at the iconic Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari temple in Mumbai.Other notable Marathi connections include Amitabh’s involvement with Chitrapati V of Rajkamal Kala Mandir. In 2015, he released the 100th edition of Marathi films published by the Shantaram Foundation, covering the period from May 3, 1993, to May 3, 2013.
