Dhurandhar 2 Facts: Director Shares Interesting facts about the Sequel

In a recent revelation that has stunned the industry, director Aditya Dhar shared the behind-the-scenes “insanity” that went into creating the Dhurandhar saga. Despite the massive scale of the films, Dhar managed to pull off a rare feat of financial efficiency, spending nearly 11 to 12 lakhs less per day on the Dhurandhar sets than he did during the production of his debut blockbuster, Uri: The Surgical Strike.
The “Paltry” 255 Crore Budget
While rumors suggested a budget upwards of 500 crore, Aditya Dhar confirmed that the actual cost to shoot both films combined was approximately 255 crores. Initially conceived as a single movie, the project evolved into a massive 8-hour saga during production. Realizing that an 8-hour theatrical run was impossible, the decision was made to split the story into two distinct parts: Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge.
From 10 Seconds to 2 Minutes
The film’s length expanded naturally as Dhar realized that small montages were evolving into significant, high-impact scenes. He explained:
“A scene that was meant to be for 10 seconds actually required 2 minutes to breathe and land its impact.”
A prime example is the introduction of Arjun Rampal’s character, Major Iqbal. Originally scripted as a brief 2.5-minute sequence where he discusses buying weapons, the scene’s intensity and dialogue eventually stretched it to nearly 9 minutes.
Script Rigidity vs. On-Set Improvisation
Despite the spontaneous “banter” and dialogue enhancements that Dhar conceptualized on the day of shooting, the final product remains 95% to 96% faithful to the original script. Dhar attribute’s this to his “water-tight” research and thorough preparation.
While a second unit assisted with some minor shots, Aditya Dhar personally directed every crucial sequence to ensure the vision remained intact. This hands-on approach has clearly paid off, as the duology continues to dominate the global box office in 2026.
