Dashavatar Selected in the Oscars’ Main Category: A Proud Moment for Marathi Cinema

The acclaimed Marathi film Dashavatar has been officially selected for the main category race at the Oscars, one of the most prestigious honors in the global film industry. Director Subodh Khanolkar shared this exciting news with fans via social media, marking a historic moment for Marathi cinema.

Released in 2025, Dashavatar produced by Babu Mestri resonated deeply with audiences for its portrayal of Konkan’s rich traditions while addressing important social themes. The film was well-received both critically and commercially, and now it is set to make waves on the international stage.

Subodh Khanolkar posted a screenshot of the official message informing him that Dashavatar “will now be seen live in the Oscars screening room.” In his heartfelt post, he reflected on the journey: “It took hard work, honesty, big dreams, faith in our work, perseverance, and the support of those who believed in us.”He expressed immense pride in Dashavatar being selected for the Oscars’ main open film category contention list, calling it a recognition of years of dedication.

“This is probably the first Marathi film to be chosen in the main competition category and the only Marathi film among over 150 selected from thousands of entries,” he noted. It is also the first Marathi film to be screened in the Academy Screening Room.While winning the Oscar is a separate challenge, Khanolkar emphasized the significance of Marathi cinema gaining mainstream global recognition.
