Shiv Sena Leader Urges CM to Grant Tax-Free Status to Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Raja Shivaji’

The historical biopic ‘Raja Shivaji’, which released to massive acclaim on May 1, has sparked a significant movement within Maharashtra’s political circles. Ambadas Danve, a prominent Shiv Sena leader, has officially written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting that the film be made tax-free across the state.
Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh, the film has been a major draw at the box office, receiving an overwhelming response for its portrayal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. In his letter, Danve emphasized that the project transcends mere entertainment, describing it as a vital piece of “historical consciousness and inspiration.”
Key Arguments for Tax Exemption:
- Educational Value: Danve noted that the film effectively showcases Maharaj’s bravery, guerrilla tactics, and people-oriented administration—lessons that are essential for today’s youth.
- Cultural Pride: The letter highlights the film’s ability to instill patriotism and self-respect, serving as a medium to propagate Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage.
- Accessibility: Making the film tax-free would lower ticket prices, making it more affordable for students and the general public to experience this historical narrative on the big screen.
“It is necessary for the government to take the initiative to make ‘Raja Shivaji’ accessible to more people. This will ensure the message of Maharaj’s tactical skills and proper governance reaches the masses,” Danve stated in his appeal.
The demand is currently gaining traction across both political and social platforms. Supporters argue that tax-free status would significantly amplify the film’s social impact, ensuring that the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continues to inspire a wide demographic. All eyes are now on the state government for a final decision regarding the exemption.
