Phula: A Celebration of Waghya-Murali’s Traditional Folk Culture

Phula is a poignant film that narrates the struggle of an innocent girl born into hardship, delving deep into the rich traditional folk culture of Waghya-Murali. The film promises a musical feast, featuring a melodious album of seven authentic songs—a rarity in recent Marathi cinema.Created by passionate youth from Atpadi village in Sangli district, Phula is a fresh and heartfelt effort to showcase untold stories and cultural heritage.

Produced by Ajit Shivaji Jadhav and presented by Shivsharvil Movie and Bodhi Cinema, the film is written and directed by Abhishek Javir, with screenplay by Ravi Kiran Javir.Drawing inspiration from Maharashtra’s vibrant folk traditions like Tamasha Phad and Jagran Gondhal, Phula tells the compelling story of a girl born to a pimp, exploring themes of innocence, resilience, and cultural identity.

The seven featured songs—Kanha Tujhi BansariMajha Raja MalhariAsra Tu Mere JeevichaKunku Korla KapaliMurali Jhale Mi Gan BaiKapali Sajla Bashing, and Derbycha Thriller—beautifully capture the spirit of Waghya-Murali and express the emotions of the character Murali.The film offers a unique cinematic experience, blending lyrical folk music with authentic cultural expressions, making it a must-watch on the big screen. Scheduled to release across Maharashtra on April 17, Phula shines a light on the real lives of the artists we admire, crafted by a new generation eager to tell their stories.

The soundtrack features vocals by Vaishali Samant, Vaishali Made, Rohit Raut, Ravindra Khomane, Vaishali Kulkarni, Vaishnavi Adode, and Akash Navgire. Choreography is handled by Ashutosh Kirtikar and Srishti Jadhav, while costume designers Komal Javir and Akshata Patil, along with makeup artist Samadhan Bhore, contribute to the film’s authentic visual appeal.Phula stands as a heartfelt tribute to Maharashtra’s folk heritage and the enduring spirit of its artists, brought to life by the passionate youth of Atpadi.
