Marathi Actor Swapnil Rajasekhar Responds to Trolling Over Speaking in Hindi

Prominent Marathi actor Swapnil Rajasekhar recently addressed online trolling regarding his use of the Hindi language on social media, asserting that respecting Marathi does not mean rejecting other languages. The debate re-emerged after the actor shared a screenshot on Facebook of a critical comment left on one of his Hindi-language reels, which accused Marathi actors of abandoning their mother tongue.

In his post, Rajasekhar highlighted the hypocrisy of such criticism, noting that the commenter used an English handle and actively promoted non-Marathi cinema on their profile. He emphasized that being proud of one’s mother tongue and expressing hatred toward other languages are entirely different concepts, urging audiences to abandon narrow-minded attitudes toward language use.

To support his perspective, the actor cited historical figures from Maharashtra. He referenced Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s forward-thinking vision in establishing an independent navy by looking beyond traditional boundaries. He also highlighted Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was a scholar proficient in multiple languages, using them effectively to create literature and communicate across regions.

Reiterating his deep connection to Marathi, Rajasekhar shared that he is proficient in four to five regional dialects and actively works to showcase the rich sweetness of his native Kolhapuri tongue on social media. He concluded that as an artist, he will continue to express himself in various languages to connect with audiences across India and around the world, as learning and using multiple languages enriches both the individual and the craft.
