“I Am Going to Be Fine Too”: Medha Manjrekar Speaks Out on Her Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Actress Medha Manjrekar, wife of veteran filmmaker-actor Mahesh Manjrekar, recently opened up in a candid interview about her recent cancer diagnosis, her ongoing treatment, and maintaining an optimistic outlook. Medha’s diagnosis came as a shock to fans after she revealed the news on social media without prior indication.

Reflecting on her family’s history with the disease—both her late mother and husband Mahesh Manjrekar previously battled cancer—Medha expressed strong resolve, emphasizing that modern medical advancements give every reason to stay hopeful.

On the Early Diagnosis and Telling Mahesh

Sharing the timeline of her diagnosis, Medha revealed that she prioritized completing a pre-planned trip before undergoing detailed medical evaluations:

“I had a trip planned. I thought if you want to get tested, you have to go back first… So I said I would test in 10 days, so I went on a trip and completed the tests after returning. Then the journey began.”

Upon receiving her initial results, she knew further testing was required. Recalling how she broke the news to her husband upon returning home, Medha shared:

“When I got home, I told Mahesh about my cancer. Mahesh is very positive. He was similarly positive during his cancer… My mother is fine, Mahesh was fine, and I am going to be fine too.”

A Genetic Connection and a Message of Courage

Acknowledging the hereditary aspect of her illness, Medha noted that her mother had also fought cancer. Rather than letting fear dictate her response, she chose acceptance and resilience:

“My cancer is genetic because my mother had cancer… Accepting some things and moving on—let’s see how we can come out of it. Do what is at hand and accept what is not.”

Offering reassurance to fans and individuals facing similar health battles, Medha urged people not to let fear overwhelm them:

“When we say cancer, we get scared. But I would say to everyone, don’t be afraid, because there are much better treatments available now. We have to fight—sometimes the treatment feels more painful than the disease itself—but I decided that everything is going to be alright.”
