Explosions and Missiles in Dubai: Eknath Shinde Assists Smita Gondkar Stranded Amid Middle East Tensions
Marathi actress Smita Gondkar recently shared her harrowing experience of being stranded in Dubai amid escalating tensions following attacks between the United States, Israel, and Iran. With the sound of explosives, windows shaking, and missiles visible lighting up the night sky, Smita and her family faced a frightening ordeal. The closure of airspace and widespread flight cancellations made returning to India nearly impossible.
After Iran retaliated by targeting US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE, global flight operations were severely disrupted. Many airlines suspended or canceled flights to the Middle East, leaving numerous Indians stranded abroad. The Government of India has been making continuous efforts to bring its citizens back home safely.
In an emotional Instagram post, Smita described the chaos: “The last few days have been very challenging. Explosions, shaking windows, missiles flying at night, interceptions, and even unusual cloud formations during the day. We hoped the situation would calm down soon, but with airspace closures and canceled flights despite repeated bookings, returning home was nearly impossible, especially with senior family members traveling with me.”
She expressed heartfelt gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Mangesh Desai, and Additional Commissioner Rahul Jethe for their swift and compassionate intervention. “From arranging accommodation and transportation to ensuring our safe return to India, their support was truly reassuring. Their prompt action helped not just my family but many stranded Indians.
It reflects strong leadership and genuine care for citizens in critical times. As an Indian, I am proud to see our government stand firmly with its people.” Earlier, Eknath Shinde had also assisted the son of actress Vishakha Subhedar stranded in Kuwait, who later expressed her thanks publicly as well.
