Sonali Kulkarni Praises Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan for Embracing Age-Appropriate Roles

The Mtown actress Sonali Kulkarni has shared her candid thoughts on the evolving roles of actresses in Bollywood, emphasizing that marriage and motherhood should never stall a woman’s career. While addressing the long-standing industry trend of typecasting actresses as they age, Kulkarni highlighted how mainstream cinema is gradually shifting toward more mature and realistic character arcs.

Kulkarni recalled her own experience playing Salman Khan’s mother in the 2019 film Bharat, despite being nine years younger than him. She noted that actors should evaluate roles based on creative merit rather than fear of age perception. According to her, an actress’s personal life—whether she marries or has children must not dictate the kind of scripts offered to her. She argued that the entertainment industry needs to fully accept that female stars can manage family lives while continuing to perform diverse, lead-level roles.

In this context, Kulkarni praised male actors like Saif Ali Khan and Aamir Khan for fearlessly embracing their age on screen. She noted that Saif continues to mature effortlessly, taking on challenging roles such as a middle-aged father without hesitating to experiment.

She expressed even greater admiration for Aamir Khan’s bold choices, particularly his performance in Dangal. Kulkarni pointed out that despite being a massive heartthrob with millions of eager admirers worldwide, Aamir had the courage to portray the father of grown daughters without relying on heavy prosthetics to hide his natural look.

“Aamir Khan, whose posters are everywhere and for whom girls go crazy, presented himself as a father of three or four girls without any prosthetics. That makes him a real hero,” Kulkarni stated. She concluded that true artists are not trapped in a race to look younger, but are instead focused on showcasing their authentic talent without fear of aging.
