Director Hemant Dhome recently shared a deleted scene from his successful film Krantijyoti Vidyalaya Marathi Medium on social media, featuring actor Sankarshan Karhade. The scene’s removal has sparked varied responses among netizens—some applauding the decision, while others questioned why it was cut.
Krantijyoti Vidyalaya Marathi Medium was a major box office hit, made on a budget of around Rs 6 crore and grossing over Rs 20 crore. The film highlights the importance of sustaining and expanding Marathi-medium schools and fostering quality education in the mother tongue. It received widespread acclaim from audiences and critics alike, generating significant buzz on social media.
In his post, Hemant wrote, “The incident of Sankarshan Karhade… which for some reason could not be put in the film. But now the whole event is special for you. Our mother tongue is the language that brings us closer to God.” The deleted scene shows Sankarshan giving examples like Vasudev, Wari, and Nandibailwala while reflecting on the preservation of the Marathi language. He questions, “Does Vasudev, who used to come to your door every morning, come? Do you get confused?
Do you know how to jog? Leave it all. Does the murmuring Nandi come to the one you used to ask for the poll? Unfortunately, this is something to think about. Beyond this, will the Wari that passes through the shadow of Vitthal go away?”Netizens’ reactions split into two camps. One group expressed regret over the scene’s removal, feeling it added value to the film. Another group supported the decision, believing the film was stronger without it.Comments included:
- “It was good; the scene was unnecessary. Vasudev and the examples he gave are a matter of pride and joy.”
- “No matter what anyone says, the film wasn’t just emotional. All points were well presented.”
- “I don’t think this scene should have been included, but there’s nothing wrong with it.”
- “It’s good that this scene wasn’t kept. The movie was good. The issue is that the terms ‘Harijan,’ ‘Vasudev,’ and ‘Nandibailwala’ keep stirring controversy. It shouldn’t have been added to your good film.”
The debate reflects the diverse perspectives on how cultural and social themes are portrayed in cinema.
