Marathi actor Saurabh Gokhale recently reacted to the ongoing Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests, firmly clarifying that he will never adopt an anti-government position. Sharing his perspective on the complex issue, he spoke openly about the secondary aspects of the agitation that have raised concerns for him.
The protests, which originated with a month-long hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, reached a boiling point on Monday after demonstrators felt ignored by the Central Government. What began as a student-led movement culminated in a direct march toward Parliament. Police used lathi charges and teargas shells to disperse the crowd, generating intense media coverage. While videos went viral and several prominent celebrities expressed solidarity with the protesting students, Gokhale took a distinctly different approach by backing the administration.
Explaining his stance to the media, Gokhale stated, “I will never take an anti-government stand because I do not believe the government is solely responsible for every issue. Specific individuals were responsible for past incidents, and law enforcement has already arrested them without hesitation.”
While acknowledging the core intention behind the agitation advocating for positive reforms in the education system Gokhale pointed out concerning developments within the movement. He highlighted that certain elements began disparaging Hinduism and Lord Ram, giving the entire protest an unwanted religious spin. “As a proud Hindu, these statements are unacceptable to me,” he added.
He further noted that while he empathizes with student welfare concerns, seeing political and religious agendas infiltrate educational causes alienates supporters. His conservative view stands in contrast to fellow celebrities like Subodh Bhave, Atul Kulkarni, Rasika Sunil, and Poorva Kaushal, who have openly extended their support to the CJP protests dominating social media discussions across the nation.
