While fans remain familiar with the legendary career of Marathi and Hindi cinema icon Laxmikant Berde, details about his personal life often spark quiet reflection among admirers. In a recent emotional interview, veteran actor Chetan Dalvi opened up about Laxmikant’s late first wife, Ruhi Berde, highlighting her extraordinary generosity and warmth toward colleagues on set.
Chetan Dalvi, a close friend and frequent co-star of the late superstar, recalled how Ruhi went out of her way to care for film crews. Even though she was a busy and popular actress herself, Ruhi would wake up early every morning to prepare fresh home-cooked meals, including signature fish and vegetable dishes, before heading out to her own film shoots.
According to Dalvi, the cast and crew eagerly anticipated the food sent from Laxmikant’s house every single day. Laxmikant would ask everyone on set about their menu preferences for dinner and convey their requests to Ruhi, who happily obliged despite her own demanding schedule. Dalvi fondly remembered how her caring nature brought immense joy to everyone working alongside the couple.
Ruhi Berde was a prominent name in the Marathi film industry and shared nearly 15 years of her life with Laxmikant. Tragically, her life was cut short when she suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage. Although her driver rushed her to a nearby hospital for emergency care, she passed away on April 5, 1998, after a brief period of treatment.
Following her tragic passing, Laxmikant later married actress Priya Berde, with whom he had two children, Abhinay and Swanandi. Laxmikant Berde himself passed away on December 16, 2004, but memories of his legendary comedic timing and Ruhi’s gentle hospitality continue to live on in the hearts of their peers.
